An Unlucky Break

An Unlucky Break

A Poem by Jennifer Elizabeth

Karma says he’ll somehow get you
For every little prank you pull
Karma says he’s watching, waiting
To knock you down a peg or two

He will get even for your wrong doings
And praise you for your good deeds done
Karma’s standing, ever patient
Anywhere you try to run

But lately he’s been on my case
For evils I wouldn’t dare commit
And lately he’s been cashing checks
On dirty deeds I did not submit

For I try to be a decent person
Karma & I were once good friends
Could it be he’s merely testing?
And I’ll be thankful in the end?

Karma, old friend, and ever-wise one,
What did I do to wrong you so?
Will this tide of pure misfortune

Ever cease its determined flow?
