The Burden of the Brain

The Burden of the Brain

A Poem by Jennifer Elizabeth

Perception is the illusion of an over-worked brain

Poor brain, really

When you think about how hard it works

Every day

So often being wrong,

Over-powered

Underestimated

Misunderstood

And it just keeps on going

People try to comprehend why the world is always going mad

Why so many minds wander off track

That's not to say

The heart & spinal cord don't help out

Oh, they play their part in everything

Do what they can

But they aren't equiped with the right tools

There isn't much they can do to alleviate the brain's burden

Always interpreting

Most times incorrectly

A full time job of trial and error

Never quite getting it exactly on the money

Poor little guy,

He never stood a chance

What a clever treatment! That our poor, overburdened brains take such abuse, yet function as well as they do for as long as they do is a tribute to them, and to their Designer! Countless are the poems that deal with the heart and its travails as the supposed seat of emotion, but even though we know that all that truly starts in the brain, I don't believe I've ever seen a poem that addresses the brain as the object of our compassion; TRULY unique!

Ya know? This is an insightful ink. The brain only takes a break when we sleep and even then it dreams.
Poor brain.. it doesn't get paid... no overtime.. and goes overload during the holidays! Yet we take it for granted until it goes off skew.. then we see docs and shrinks and ask what is happening to me?

Take a breather and a break.. allow your brain to relax and play just a little every day... is the message I get from this piece!

Mindful ink! (Yes... I am silly!)
