Bloom

Bloom

A Poem by Jenny Davis

She'd just moved in...

Outside- beside her chipped paint porch, was a tiny pond.
The weekend was here and so she decided to clean it.

Upon removing the last bit of algae, she found a dying lotus.
It was barely recognizable as such, but she knew it was.

She touched its delicate, slumping green arms and spoke.
Her tone was ever so gentle, just enough to let the flower know she was there and... that she cared.

Every morning and night, she was found by the pond side,
singing, praying and nurturing her lost bud, floating.

One day, during her daily ritual of visiting the water,
she saw a blur of color emerging at the surface.

It was bright yellow and stunning from arm to head.
Her lotus flower was alive and well, smiling, the way she did

for it, even in its most repelling appearances and times.
Every day now, the lotus honors her too, greeting sun and moon.

I talk to my plants, after all they are alive..
I love this ,, it shows love and tanacity.. and a woman who is very compassionate..
And in the end we see the Lotus appreciated it.
To me this could also be about our relationships with people.. nuture and love and recieve it in return.

I really like this piece!
It's so simply written, but I feel so much emotion coming from it. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could care for nature the way "She" does.
I liked your use of descriptive words. Although they were simple, it made it easier to see her porch, the algea in the pond, the lotus blossom itself. And I can really feel the emotion that she has for this poor flower.
Thanks for sharing.

Jenny I loved how this is written, if we take care of mother nature she will return the favor and take care of us. I think this could pretain to a few dfferent situations, but they all say the same thing. One hand always washes the other.

I enjoyed the style in which you wrote this; it's like a very poetic story or fable.
The simplicity of it carries forth the beautiful sentiment well.
Really lovely, with an important theme of caring.

I'd maybe make the first line "She'd just" or "She had just", if you mean "move in" like new house.
The way it is, it sounds like she- -barged-something-out-of-the-way-to-get-there/ hunting kind of "just moved in"...like "she made a move".

Thanks for sharing this with me; it's a pleasant read and very well-written.

If everyone in the world felt this way, how great life would be...

This is a beautiful and very uplifting poem... One of the problems with our thinking is that we want everything so fast. People use technology to have everything quick! (Easy come, easy go!) How fast we run...We fail to appreciate beauty that is subtle.

Well, you've said all that and much much more. This was wonderful.

By the way, Do I notice someone using the new features of the site to add value to their work?? Well done there. :)
