What Never Will Be

What Never Will Be

A Poem by Jennifer Lane

I use to dream of walking down the aisle to you,
Now all I see is me walking away.
Never having known the love we could've shared,
Because you could never believe in me.
I was never good enough for you,
You always wanted me to be someone and or something else.
I'll never have the unconditional love from you,
To know that it's me that matters the most in your world.
There's so much love in me for you,
A love that I thought I'd be able to show.
But when I try to embrace that love,
To let it flow like a river.
You always seem to build an internal dam to shut it out,
There's only so long a river can flow.
While never having a chance to be free,
Free to do as it was meant to do.
Before it dries up to just a bed of rocks,
Deprived of the live it once had.
