Just Leave The Way You Came

Just Leave The Way You Came

A Poem by Jessica Gillitzer
"

Going through a bad break up where I believed in someone and the dreams they sold, just trying to come to terms with yet another disappointment found in the selfishness of humanity

"
You came into my life like a mirage
In my darkest moments your loving words were a barrage
Tearing down my defenses, peddling hope... sabotage
I knew no better, a sullen broken girl searching for meaning and worth
Thought I found in you a spiritual and emotional rebirth
But I watched you pluck these pedals of mine one by one
She loves me, she loves me not... a childish game of feeding your narcissism
Your words and actions now create a schism

I'll be okay
I just need you to go away
walk out the way you came
Leave the key and take your shame

You promised a world I'd never known
A place where I could come in from the cold I'd always known
A space where I could be the broken pieces I so rarely allowed to be shown
For the first time I felt like I could be seen, wanted to be seen
Hoped to be seen only by you
But you were looking for what you could take away from this
All your words and moments spent holding me merely falsified bliss
Just know it's all those lies I believed that' I'll now miss

I'll be okay
I just need you to go away
Walk out the way you came
Leave the key and take your shame

You were everything to the girl with nothing left
Your lies and manipulation so deft
Believed your hands could rebuild my broken pieces
But for you using me is what release is
You sought the intoxication of my love and affection
Used up I'm left in such abjection
So I pick up the pieces and put them away in my box again
Now with one more monster to add to Pandora's box

I'm okay
Just go away
You left the way you came
I've got my key and you can keep your shame

Love is the complete surrender to another person where souls communicate and be something else. I felt the tone of breaking one's walls down the audacity to trust in the beginning is ill-advised but praiseworthy to do cause that's what love is built on for that complete surrender to take place. In the middle you get the expectations of promises being made and broken spontaneously while looking back in the past. I loved the timeline very organised. We all seek happiness but it's self-defeating in a way. The author here reasons with the individual that aging, hungering, and hurting you are experiencing resonates deeply with me. A french poet said once " True love is like ghost: often talked of but few have seen." Keep writing sincerely your friend in poetry and life

There is a defiance here, a woman fighting back. A tale of vulnerability and letting the barriers down in good faith to a manipulator of feelings. It happens. It's painful, but you learn and it doesn't happen a second time. Feisty approach. I liked the read. Nicely composed and conveyed Jessica.
