A Poem by Katie Foutz Voss
"

Written May 2007. Accompanying song (for feeling): Transatlanticism by Death Cab For Cutie.

"

Sometimes in the semi-darkness

where I lay awake against my

lover Exhaustion I wonder if

it is a comfort to know there
is always a way to remember by
closing my eyes with both hands
covering my face and letting this
song take me back to the cold hill
where I flew through the air
without grace and tumbled about
in endless spinning moments of
tension and absolute calm going
faster and faster and faster and faster
until I stop abruptly in a place
between sleep and death but still
filled with revolving harmonies of
unconsciousness and disorientation
and I am wakened by dear Courage
and kissed sweetly by Hope
and slowly rocked to sleep
in the gentle arms of Memory.
