Give Home to the Lost

Give Home to the Lost

A Poem by Jester

We sing to a tune that only we know,

We dance to secret steps,

We flutter alongside plastic butterflies,

And love alongside paper hearts.

We live in concrete jungles,

And survive in shadow-laden alleys,

Mazes we run,

Like mice in a cage.

Twisting and turning,

We never get to stop,

No rest for the wicked,

No hope for the damned.

No savior for the broken,

No Sheppard for the lambs,

No way out of the darkness,

Find your own way to the light.

Concrete saviors,

Come and go,

Never staying in a single place,

There’s always someone to save.

Don’t leave us in the darkness,

Help us to the light,

Don’t abandon us to hopelessness,

Don’t leave us alone again.

Learn to survive in concrete jungles,

Learn to become invisible,

Learn to hate and harden hearts,

Learn to leave souls in the cold.

You left us in the snow,

And now you see what we’ve become,

You beg for forgiveness,

You say you didn’t know,

But I don’t care anymore,

You abandoned me to the monsters,

I want nothing to do with you,

And the concrete saviors,

Have nothing to give you,

We have no pretty words

To help you through your pain,

Only truth.

You left us,

Now want us back, too bad for you,

We liked our taste of freedom,

And we’re never going back.

Very well done. Obvious pain and resentment at being abandoned ending with determination to remain independent. Still hurting, but free.
Very nicely presented.
