Tunnel

Tunnel

A Poem by Joshua Kyle

Tunnel.
Step one.

Breathe.

Fill up your lungs.

Step Two.

Open your eyes.

Look into mine.

You can't understand me but I whisper your name.

Welcome to the world.

My son.

Step Three.

Speak your first word.

Smile at us, as we dance around the room.

Step Four.

Grow.

Just as tall as you can.

Reach for the stars.

Because they're all in your reach.

I love you more than anything.

I'm sorry for all the times I'll let you down.

I'm scared I won't be there.

When you need me the most.

I'm scared I'll treat you like my father treated me.

I promise I'll try to become all the things, that I never had.

I may not be perfect, but you are to me.

A part of me.

Of the woman I love.

My son, keep you head held high.

The world is cruel.

Step five.

I'd put my hand on your shoulder.

Tell you "make me proud."

But you already have.

I treasure the time I have with you.

Live your life.

You make me proud.

My son.

This is pretty deep. The growth of the father and the son intermingles extremely well. Pushing your emotions or beliefs into a poem truly brings out the message in it. It's easy to tell that this was done here.

I agree, it is quite deep. The realism this sends to readers is quite amazing.

There aren't a lot of words, but the words the poem does have have really deep meaning. Short & Sweet.
