A Light In Her Window

A Light In Her Window

A Poem by Y.F.
"

Life, death, and what's in between

"

There's a light in her window

as I stare up above

I see the light shining

and I know it's true love

There's a light in her window

so white and so pure

just like the woman

I so deeply adore

There's a light in her window

and while the yellow flame hiss

I close both my eyes

and pray for her kiss

There's a light in her window

inviting me in

so white and so pure

yet it feels like a sin

As I go off to war

I wave her goodbye

while the light in her window

sheds a waxed cry

As I go off to war

all I can see

is a white, lit face

staring at me

There's a light in her window

as I look down below

this candle's for me

and that's all that I know

There's another bright light

a small face, just like mine

as my candle'll burn out

his soul will still shine.

Ah... the circle of life... life > love > death > life

There's a light in her window
as I look down below
this candle's for me
and that's all that I know - I really like this stanza. Poignant.

The stanzas beginning 'As I go off to war' really took me by surprise as by that time the repetition and extremely strong rhythm of the first four had made their mark on my internal monologue and I had to readjust my reading rhythm. It flowed fine once I had read it once and was prepared for the change. I like how this change could represent the change in his life and their relationship.

The story you tell is much bigger than the poem itself and that's great.

The imagery of the white, pure light from the window is awesome and there has never been and never will be a better symbol of the brevity of life than a candle.

Good work!... again!
