Apathy

Apathy

A Poem by Y.F.

I'm struck with apathy,

and I don't really care.

These things you do to me -

I've always been aware,

I just don't care.

I'm struck with apathy,

and I'm not really sure

what's that you do to me

and whether I want more.

I'm just not sure.

So Indecisive

or sloppy if you will

don't feel divisive

as if nothing's really real

I'm struck with apathy,

and everything's offhand.

They're all fed up with me,

they'll never understand

these things offhand.

I'm struck with apathy,

and have no care at all.

My world just seems so big,

the problems seem so small,

no care at all.

They're quite a hazard,

these people that do care.

Their faces haggard,

why couldn't they just share

my apathy?

This is a tribute to the state of my nation. Most everyone I know is filled with apathy. Just my two cents, but I feel so many are apathetic today because as you've stated in your poem when you think of the size of the world in comparison with the problems, it is hard to figure out how just one small speck could make a change. That is why the people must all begin to awaken and join together so that our oneness can become huge and conquer many problems.

I was thinking the other day about how apathetic so many young people are in the UK at the moment. I have always thought that pride in a person's country leads to nationalism and racism but after visiting the US and seeing how nice the places I visited were compared to here, where there is litter on the streets etc, I have been rethinking. I'm not sure pride in a person's home is such a bad thing. I guess there is a difference between respect for your hometown and thinking your race is better than others. Umm... not quite sure what I am talking about. How did I get from your poem to this?

So many people complain about the state of the nation yet don't do anything about it, or just don't care enough to act. And then there are the people that care too much. That can be very dangerous sometimes.

I don't really know if anything I am saying has much relevance to your poem, except I think somewhere along the lines I am talking about apathy. Ah... I just don't care anymore...
