Deadbolt

Deadbolt

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

The deadbolt on the door
of my heart
Keeps the hurt
out.

But it keeps out
the
love
as well.

The deadbolt
leaves
one's
heart
dead
indeed.

Yes. So true. To have a human heart is to hurt sometimes. If only we could lock and unlock that deadbolt at the appropriate times. This is a really tight poem. Nicely structured. Thanks for pointing to oneword.com by the way! Awesome little site for getting the words flowing.

The heart, unfortunately, dear lady, was also meant to hurt--for ourselves, for other people, for the loneliness of our existence.
Yours is a melancholy little poem with profound ramifications. Not only do I appreciate the art of this work, I am staggered at the thoughts it provokes.
Another well-done piece, Judy, very well-done.
