Bandana

Bandana

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

Bandanas hiding the worn faces
of thieves robbing stage coaches
in the wild west.

The red-printed triangles
showing only
hardened steel eyes
of desperate men.

Men looking for the fortune
they think will give them peace
but inevitably leading to tragedy
in those old western films.

I see Butch and Sundance in this piece…I love a good western Judy; this has all the tale tales of my six-shooting dreams…

Great Write!

I think bandanas are still worn by a few bikers, but mostly, they faded with the western movie. I think I might need one to cover up my scary old mug.

ooo I like how you really hone in on a specific aspect and make me consider things i normally wouldn't - an interesting choice of word ha - the idea of suppression of identity - it's so much easier to hide behind a mask - but inevitably leading to tragedy indeed - whether it be the total loss of self on a mental/metaphorical level or indeed the ultimate outcome in such films!! very nice!!

i love the first two stanzas, it gives such a wonderful image of a western cowboy just like from the movies, but for some reason i like this picture of words better :D

Very nicely done!
Did you know that Gandhi loved cowboys? (It was quite a scandal.) Even as a young man, he would put on one of those bandanas and pretend he was holding up a stage coach; making him one of the few men in history to pretty much wear a diaper on his face, as well as his rear end.
I truly love your work, Judy.
