Don t Be Yourself, Be Perfect!

A little thing about not wanting to be just another clone of everyone else.

Everyone has the same plastic surgery bodies, except for you.
Everyone cuts their hair like the celebrities do, except for you.
Everyone keeps their hair within natural looking colors, except for you.
Everyone wears the same designer clothes (or at least really good knock offs), except for you.
Everyone is on one of those trendy diets, except for you.
Everyone goes to the same social events, except for you.
You aren’t like everyone at all, what is wrong with you?

Yes, I am not like everyone else, but that is what I want!

I will not change my natural body!
I will not make my hair look like some famous idiot!
I will not refrain from putting colors in my hair that don’t look natural in it!
I will not wear expensive, flashy, tight, revealing clothing!
I will not go on a weird diet!
I will not go to the parties and events that everyone loves!

My body is fine as it is and no one can tell me otherwise.
I like picking whatever hairstyle suits my tastes and personality.
Dying my hair every color of the rainbow if I so choose because it is fun.
As long as they fit, are comfortable to wear, and look good on me then those are clothes I will wear.
I’m gonna eat what I want and not starve myself on some stupid diet.
Getting drunk and high is not my idea of a good time, watching anime and going to conventions is.

I don’t care if I’m not like everyone else.
I am awesome the way I am and nothing will make me change who I am!

I wrote this poem in my high school junior English class. We had to do something inspired from the book we had been reading, Fahrenheit 451 I think.
