I Thought I Knew True Love...

I Thought I Knew True Love...

A Poem by MsJewel

I Thought I Knew True Love

…and then she cried

sweet little raindrops from blue bell eyes

I held her

close

where she could hear the lullaby

playing in my heart

only for her

tears fell…

my heart fluttered

and her tiny hand wrapped around my finger

No,

I never knew true love

….and then she cried

The first moment of private true closeness with a new born is one that last a life time. No one who hasn't experienced it can fully understand. i loved the lines
" I held her
close
where she could hear the lullaby
playing in my heart
only for her"
Only a mother knows. You surpassed yourself , didn't think you could get better, but you did.

I could read this a few different ways. Here, your picture brings my mind to think of how my own daughter taught y heart what "true love" really felt like... Nothing compares to this in my life.

Without the picture, I can see how this could be a person who takes love for granted or a relationship until they see the pain they cause another. Empathy and feeling the pain of another is also very much an expression of true love.

A heartwarming and heart wrenching write. Wow... I almost need a tissue. Ha. My little (18 yr old) girl is daddy's girl for sure. I can't stand to hear her cry.

ahh, yes, there is nothing like the birth of a child -- and yes, you'd never know what it's like if you haven't experienced it, but once you have, it is like nothing else on earth.

You are so welcome... the pleasure was mine.
This is a very beautiful poem and that's so true no love is as pure as the love of a mother. Beautiful words wrapped in the motherly love, there can be just one word for it....PERFECT

Oh dear this is beautiful. How my heart heard every single word of this piece. I have a daughter who is now 6 years old and I still remember the first time she cried and how i felt true love then too.

Just wonderful.

a mother's love for her baby...yes, that is true, unreserved love that flows like the little tears of the infant as she cries.
