Dreams, Stars, Sunbeams and Roses

Dreams, Stars, Sunbeams and Roses

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~ a poem I wrote for my daughter ~

"

It is written on the arched sky; it looks out from every star. It is the poetry of Nature; it is that which uplifts the spirit within us...John Ruskin

I caught a star, it found me in a dream

in the shadow of a flower’s tender bloom

catching raindrops safely in my pocket

saved for roses should I find a summer day

Suddenly, the songbirds sang so sweetly

of the sunrise and a day brightly kissed

with ribbons of delight…golden sunbeams

to wrap around my heart with dawns first breath

And for one moment of pure lovely bliss

tiny flecks of light weaved rainbow words

through cloudless skies of blue, a lullaby

awakening the roses sleepy blooms

I picked a sweet bouquet wrapped in sunbeams

and watched the flowers dance in graceful winds

My pockets, no longer filled with raindrops

overflowed with petals of delight

And when night fell, taking the last sunbeam

I heard the stars in whisper with the moon

“We found her in the shadow of a dream...

and filled her with the love of poetry”

Thank you Marie :) Julie
Reading this felt just as beautiful and magical as the words chosen to describe the love you feel for your daughter. Simply lovely, best way to summarize how this poem is.

I appreciate your kind words. Thank you :) Julie
The opening quote is totally relevant to your poetry my friend...I wish I could channel some of your ability to inspire and uplift with every poem you write...I am close to tears as I attempt this review...it takes time for such a imaginatively rich and moving poem to sink in...this is something she should treasure for years to come...the opening image had me right out of the gate, and the entire peace comes at the reader in vivid technicolour...I can't even begin to cite specific parts...just an amazing piece of pure beauty that truly moved me, and an obvious favourite :)

soft and beautiful sentiments .. the first verse is my favorite .. love the raindrops in me pockets .. i was surprised by the last line ... did not expect it at all .. so your wonderful young daughter has followed her mom's poetic lead??? pretty cool! nice job mom!

You are very kind Jacob. Thank you for the lovely comment :) Julie
I didn't like the diction. You didn't write it for your daughter, you wrote for other people. That's why I didn't like it. It didn't make one bit of sense. It had no purpose, no bite, no fight. Ephemeral and easily forgotten, it didn't pick me up, it couldn't even pick cotton. But continue to polish and work on your craft. But write something from the heart, don't write to amuse and impress others. I can tell when a poet writes to impress and when a poet writes to express. This poem failed me.
