Thorns and Briers

Thorns and Briers

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~ a collaboration with my favorite poet Trace ~

"

When the sun sifts through the trees

and the clouds float gray above

shadows in the whispering leaves

seem to cry teardrops of love

As they fall in disarray

cold upon the mossy stone

time turns and looks away

as a heart beats all alone

Footsteps wander tender shores

 ‘pon a breeze of memories

the wind rises and it roars

with echoes of what could be

But within a rose you hide

among thorns and briers pain

petals wilt, flowers cried

to endure the haunting rain

Like a ghost that glimmers on

binding you to shadows mist

blurred are visions, never gone

and in dreams, I feel your kiss...

Let me be your guiding star

opening your silent eyes

with a soft light from afar

to awaken love’s fireflies

On delicate fiery wings

through the darkness write my name

and with joy to you I’ll bring

my heart as a loyal flame

Never ending for all time

never pause by storm or breeze

let your love be found in mine

when the sun sifts through the trees

Really wonderful lines:
"o endure the haunting rain

Like a ghost that glimmers on
binding you to shadows mist
blurred are visions, never gone
and in dreams, I feel your kiss...”

This is a terrific collaboration. A budding love creating that healing space we all need sometimes to recover from loneliness.

Heavy sigh! The two of you write the most beautiful collaborative poetry! So much more than a poem....it feels like the screenplay of a great romantic movie! Bravo, you two! Lydi**

Thank you Lydi. Your comments mean the world to me and I know Trace feels the same way. :) Julie
I really like the use of the same opening and closing line - it made me feel as though I had read a beautiful classic romance novel. Great title and the imagery - the rose silently, diligently endowing beauty and grace among the briers is one that will stay with me. Great collaboration. Seamless. Well done Trace and Julie.

The style has the feel of antiquity of the eras of romantic poetry. I enjoyed most of the stanzas but my favourite:

But within a rose you hide
among thorns and briers pain
petals wilt, flowers cried
to endure the haunting rain

I did get a little confused as for the first few stanzas it read like a mournful poem about lost love but had progressed by the ending to a pure love poem?

I enjoyed the pictures you chose. It added a sense of romanticism to the poem; which, by the way, was written very well.
