too familiar

too familiar

A Poem by Tricia O'Brien

Abandoned during a time of need

Ignored and forgotten

Yelled at me and stuck me with all the weight on my shoulders and im breaking

The clock doesn’t stop nor does life just because one checked out

Hasn’t a clue as to how much he hurts me

I’ve been here before

He leaves me to sit in anguish alone

He lashes out, on me, and doesn’t understand the harm and expects instant removal of his wrongs when he rarely even acknowledges them in the first place

When he does apologize it’s days after the fact, so by that point it means nothing, in fact, it just hurts more

I could fill endless buckets with the tears I’ve shed

I’m left to fix, mend and maintain

Barley hanging on here myself

Zero ability and no desire to move let alone take in another breath

He’s gone again and we’ve been here before
