Thoughts From a Pond

Thoughts From a Pond

A Poem by K.C. Zbryk
"

should have paid the bookie

"

“The view here

It’s beautiful.”

These were the thoughts of the drowning man

Hanging here

Resting on the bottom of the lake

The sun is shifting

Cascading through the surface

Of the pond

And the long waving

Plant matter here

Hides him

He can see the bubbles rising

To the surface

Frightening fish

Distorting the light

But really

He’s calm now

Why panic?

His feet are set

In concrete

And there’s no help coming

So why prolong the inevitable

Why endure the burning

In his chest

He thought to himself

“The view here

It‘s beautiful.”

And inhaled
