Existence

Existence

A Poem by Paul Allen Killebrew
"

A free verse poem using vivid language and imagery.

"

A Zephyr touches me at the nave of my neck

As you whisper softly to a friend in some distant place

She laughs as she dances in the wind

This flower, which reminds me of you

Keep beating, I tell my anxious heart

As I avariciously amass memories

To you they are annulled of meaning, as am I

Escaping from your subconscious is my existence

All the while the grass grows over my bare feet

I do not know whether to laugh or cry

Suspended in a constant state of confusion

The shade tree I sit against, we share a sigh

So I stand and walk away

Frustration consumes me whole as I fight it

And your face races past me amongst the clouds

While my existence escapes me
