TonightA Poem by KailiThinking about summer.
I think I’d like to
converse
with the Moon;
Swing in a
hammock
as the sun warms the
other side of the World;
Dance in a field of stars and
soft-pulsing fireflies
so dense that my eyes
burst into flame,
painlessly and
with brilliance beyond
what we know.
Oh, August in itself:
harp strings, silk, and warm water!
mercury and flag waves!
I’d like to sleep –
laze beside human existence who
wouldn’t mind the
hazy crisp of sky-air and the
nostalgia of it all.
In my mind, simple and round
would the moments be:
salt-shaker specks and heavy eyes,
slipping toes and
slipping into silence.
