A Stranger in the Dark

A Stranger in the Dark

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

He came at night when it was dead and dark-

his figure invisible in the blackness of the air.

He stepped inside and didn't say much-

I should have known why he was there.

His mouth didn't open but maybe twice-

once to say his name and the another to say goodnight.

He followed me into my bed,

and next I could not tell you what went through my head.

I wanted to sleep-

to close my eyes in his arms.

But that was not something he wanted-

in fact it was very far.

Instead his hands traveled down me.

I must say it was uncomfortable.

My mother's door was open but she couldn't see

that I was then suddenly in trouble.

In a quick moment his pants came down,

and my shirt came quickly off.

My thoughts flooded my brain even faster,

but my "no's" were not enough.

He came there with one thing in mind-

with only one goal to accomplish.

He got what he wanted that night,

before back in the dark he diminished.
