Discovering Point

Discovering Point

A Poem by Kat_BT

I ask,

What is the point in discovering yourself,

If no one else knows who you are?

We look and we search

We learn and we break down

We change and discover

ourselves.

What we know and who we are

is in constant motion

changing what is right

what is wrong

and what is in between

Based on those around us.

We work for each other

help out

on this journey of life

to discover ourselves.

I wonder,

though,

What is the point in discovering me,

If there is no one to know?

How can i benefit you

by knowing more about me?

Our reasons for being who we are differ

We are individuals,

and that part of us,

the baby's soul within,

we do not know

and always carry.

Observations

and experiences

and discussions

Lead us to who we are,

and make us so alike

and yet so different.

It would be lonely

oh so very lonely,

To be the only one to know

who you are.

To never be understood by anyone else

To not be noticed for who we genuinely are.

We are not alone

in our mysteries.

Our friends see us in a different light

Our enemies in a darker one.

We stand between fake and real, wants and wishes

Cloud us from knowing

And seeing more than our reflection.

Our peers help us

see us better or worse

They know our actions and words,

Appearences and behavoirs.

We know our wants and wishes

and confusions.

Two sides to the whole,

we cannot know

without the help of everyone else.

So on the route of discovery

we talk

and bounce ideas

ponder questions

to see the reactions and learn

in order to discover

ourselves

through them.

We are important to ourselves,

But what is our place,

What do we do with the knowledge?

We try to benefit others

and use our talents

and who we are.

We want to be noticed,

loved.

We want to be cared for,

Understood.

I don't understand myself just yet,

I try to understand others.

Maybe they can help me understand

Me.

This really highlights the influence friends and peers have on our lives, pointing out what I had yet to notice.

This was wonderfully written, and it feels like you know you're the one who can tell us this. Not that you've been there, but that you can say this because you've seen it, which is essentially what your poem is about; learning about ourselves through our actions and the action of our peers to know what to do to help others and also never really knowing what you can do by anything other than these things.

It's hard to understand yourself... My view point is that we will never truly know ourselves until our dying breath... I know it's depressing but we constantly change and we constantly grow into a different person... Thats why friends drift apart, hearts break and then mend.... so on so forth... This is a great poem! Loved it!

"We stand between fake and real, wants and wishes..."
haha! that's from 'betwixt,' right? (well, the thought-process...

hm...

I kinda a gree with keke, but I'm gonna be a bit different:

It seems to me that by getting to know the people around you, there is no way not to get to know yourself.
It's funny, because I tried, at one time, to get to know people without telling them or letting them know anything about me.
...and once you start giving away a bit of yourself, they get know you better, and give more of themselves, and so on and so forth.

It's funny, because you could call it a give-and-take kind of thing, but it never really reels like it, huh?

"good friends are like stars...you don't always see them, but you know they're always there..."
(one of those old sayings-I found it in my random star-quote searchs...)

I can't seem to give up trying to figure out who I am, but I've pretty much come to the same conclusions you have...

Now...about,
"But what is our place,
What do we do with the knowledge?"
...welcome to the club, friendly poet!
I believe it is because of that question that we seek others.
We search and search for someone who needs something only we can do, and if we're lucky that person has something we need, too.
And so, by these give-and-take rounds, we can finally find ourselves. Our friends and families and lovers all slowly repair our broken parts as we repair theirs, and the world turns...
happy happy joy joy, huh?
if only...
lol
that was emo.
anyway, good write!
haha, ttyl!
(I'm using chat-speak on a writing site? oh, dear, please don't hunt me down and kill me, grammar-demons!)
