Gray

Gray

A Poem by Katie Marie

Gray.
Everything is gray.
Gray sky,
Gray house,
Gray street.
Nothing moves.
Not even the breeze.
There is no sign of life in this colorless world.
But,
I see a color...
Red.
A single rose lies on the ground at my feet.
A single rose from someone long gone,
Just to let me know that color still exists.
Just to let me know that this gray, lifeless world can return to its beauty.
I just have to remember,
I have to want to remember how to find the colors again,
I have to want to remember how to take away the gray,
But I don't want to remember...
I would rather live in this colorless world alone,
Than remember the pain, the suffering of the colorful world.
At least in the gray world, I can't feel the loss.
In this gray world I can't feel anything.
I can't feel the presence of that someone long gone.
I can't feel the love they felt for me.
I can't feel the color they sent me in this gray, gray world.
I don't feel the need to bring the colors back,
So I continue to stand here in this colorless, lifeless world.

A lovely poem which I can totally relay to. Very well written, it might be dark but that is what makes it beautiful :)

I know just how this feels! It's depression taking the light from your eyes, but you just have to keep fighting back somehow, use this writing of yours as a tool that's completely on your side.

this reminded me of the film Pleasantville, where, slowly, bit by bit, colour is introduced into a black and white world; starting with a red rose. I like the idea woven through this, however, I think it could have been achieved more subtly. good work. has potential. :)

I love the discriptive words you used, and how you made it sound so plausible that our life is so colorless and bland ^_^
Symbolism can be found by the dozens in this work.

Nice work.
I wouldn't really call it 'dark' - it isn't pervy or morbid. Quite the contrary

i love dark and bleak poems, theres always something hidden behind the grey and black of this world.
