One Simple Word

Endless nights  spent thinking,
Thinking about those years,
Thinking about that time,
When things weren't so complicated.

What happened to those times,
When we would stay up all night?
Not a care in the world,
But absorbed in the moments.

What happened to those days,
When appearance wasn't important?
30 less minutes spent in the morning,
Because beauty didn't matter.

What happened to those years?
The years we spent,
Looking up to all the older kids,
Impatiently waiting our turn to be there?

What happened to those friends?
The friends that we loved,
But are now so far away,
The people that made life worth living for?

What happened to us?

Just one simple word.

Life.

Nothing's changed between us, nothing's happened. And yes, because of how I'm feeling and what it's doing to me, I hate life. but I also appreciate friends like you and Olive who are looking out for me, letting me know I'm not alone, and worrying about me more than you even think about yourself. And I miss when it was less complicated, when looks didn't matter, and we all loved each other because really, what was there to hate? There were no judge-ments made, nothing to care about in the world except for when lunch would be or who's house you were going to after school or even whether or not your little sister stole your favorite stuffed animal :) What mattered to me then, and still matters to me now, is our friendship, and we will never lose that. never.

Your poem is true. People become adults and move on. Funny to meet people you thought were your hero's/examples and find they have your weaknesses too. Life teaches all good and bad things. I believe a wise person learn to leave the bad behind and try to live a good life. A strong ending to a excellent poem.
