![]() Mother-in-LawA Poem by Kay![]() Above anything, hope you find this amusing.![]() Her dark claws ripped the sofa side, sluggishly pulling upwards towards her witchy face, the black moss dangling forward off her forehead slightly above two pale, hollow eyes. “Come forth, child,” she growled deeply, the words creeping between her teeth like snakes, slithering into the holes of my ears, nipping at the innards of my pulsing brain. “You claim to love my son,” she cackled, her throat bouncing a rotten apple underneath, “but first you must pass through my chamber door and cross the unfathomable Lake of Death!” Her face seemed to bulge grossly large, smug excitement flickering on her forked tongue, warding my courage into a dimly lit corner, where flames wither into shy shadows. “You will fail, little mouse,” an echo came behind, as my heart took me forth by shaking hands, wielding sword and shield of titanium strength, to battle monsters from swamp to sand. The last of slithering beasts fell headless dead, and a shriek of bitter ice struck the smothered air, chilling the roots of my spine and plantlife, as she raised her wooden staff, mouth gaping wide. “How dare you!” came the bellowing cry, “This was made to condemn you in horrible wake,” but as she flung aggressively towards my flesh, my heart blasted magic compelling her to her knees. “I love him immensely,” I spoke in the new light, the cavern ceiling cracking to the beams of sun, “You cannot separate what’s written in destiny, dear witch; in all the realms, he is the one.” © 2018 KayReviews
