Afterlife

Afterlife

A Poem by Kayla Gentry ( Kyrie Kerr)
"

My original Description for this poem is waaaay to long to put in here so I shall put it before the actual poem...okay? Based off the Song "Afterlife" By: Avenged Sevenfold

"

Okay Guys, This poem was actually written after I listened to the song "Afterlife" by Avenged Sevenfold when I was waking up that morning. I mean this poem hit me so fast that I didnt even have time to eat  let alone do anything else. My br wouldn't let me! It made me go and write this and as soon as I was done I came out of the weird trance like thing I always go into when I get a poem in my head and have to write it down (before I forget it ha ha). Anyways, after I read this, out loud to myself shortly after I wrote it-and I knew it was based after Avenged Sevenfold's Song "Afterlife", because I'd scribbled that in my chicken scratch-like cursive hand writing so I guess I could remember later hehe- anyways, when I reread and reread what I had written that day something wasn't adding up to me. The reason why is because I have never fully listened to the Actual lyrics of that song. I mostly just listened to it for the instrumentals (stupid of me...majorly hehe). Anyways, how I figured it out finally, on how the two were connected and how my poem really was (kind of, in my own weird way haha), based off of the song, was when I found the paper I had written it on and typed it up last night. I also found a bunch of other papers that were poems that I based off of songs from bands and artists last night, all of them in one big folder haha, but anyway, I was typing it up and something seemed familiar about it. And it seemed to click after I read it aloud to myself as I was walking home last night from hanging out with my long time friend (I mean Dude...we've known eachother since like, preschool or Kindergarden...that tell you anything?) Justin Brown, who had called me earlier-while I was originally not only typing up my poem but setting this note up to be done! Haha nice timing Justin hehe-and asked if I wanted to hang out with him for a bit. So, like I said everything seemed to click for me as I reread the poem to myself out loud (after three months and eight days of not seeing it afterward haha), to myself as I walked home, and then listened to the song that I had based that poem after. But this time when I listened to that song, I actually Listened to the Lyrics, instead of the background instrumentals (except for when they had guitar solo's and stuff like that, then I had no choice haha), and all of a sudden it was like someone clicked on a lightbulb in my head and I knew that this poem had been based after it; that somewhere in my subconcious or whatever, knew what the lead singer was saying in his lyrics and thats how I was Able to do the poem! It was a very enlightening moment for me last night haha. Anyways I should probably shut up and let you read the poem Ive been talking about now shouldn't I? Or should I...? Just Kidding. So, Here is "Afterlife" written By me (who else lol), on September 12th, of this year at 8:42 am (see what I meant about my brain not letting me do anything else until I had that poem written down? lol):

To wonder what is next
After the fateful, final breath;
To question what is coming,
Fearing all that is left is death;
To picture what might happen,
To imagine what might be-
Common if nothing else
When in thought of eternity.
The mind cannot begin
To try to comprehend;
This endlessness is for the soul
Whether nothing, Hell, or Heaven.
The idea can relieve or frighten,
Food for the hunger of the empty heart;
It gives hope for many,
Often the reason for new starts.
It can ease or upset the mind;
It can cleanse or burn the soul-
The decisions are made only
When one thinks and lives as a whole.
One cannot help but wonder
What he or she might see
When in the presence of countless others
In either a burning or blissful eternity.
Will all be darkness with not a hint of light,
Or will there only be the rays of the Son?
Will there be anything to crave
When this wonderful, painful life is done?
Will it be in the pits of the earth
Or in the zenith of a powder blue sky?
Will there be tears of joy or anguish
When one must finally die?
Will it be angels and singing and happiness
Or demons and wailing and strife?
One cannot help but consider
What to expect in the afterlife.
