Day of Debris

Day of Debris

A Poem by Keliy Nicolaites Kese

Debris chases after the wind in this alley way

Longing to fly,

The Snickers bar wrapper once held by

A five year old shouts to its best friend

The vacated bag of

Organic spirulina superfood

“WATCH WHAT I CAN DO!!”

It spreads its torn and tattered zigzag borders and takes flight!

And right before it can make it to the

Height of the dumpster that denied it entry

Precious dreams are defiled by malignity

There’s a smile in her neck, seeping red.

Spirulina says with frantic edge

“Run, Snickers run!!!”

She drops on dreams with her body slam.

Once again Snickers is driven into with

The weight of something out of place from what it’s made from...

Her blood fills the crinkles and the cracks it had to endure for freedom.

Wind spins Spirulina away, screaming this sweet paper’s name.

“Help!!” Exclaims this blood drowning recyclable

Until there’s no longer a voice to hear.

No longer brown, no longer innocence

Do not be angry with her dwindling soul.

All she wanted was love.

If you would have known the battle

Is not with her flesh and blood

Your heart would be soon lifeless differently

Please do not be angry with her

As your tiny little air bubbles that were begging for a second chance

To dance with the wind burst

Until there is nothing left to remember you by

Do not be angry with her.

For it is true....

There aren’t any other wrappers quite like you...

And though we refuse to see it for our selfish dreams

To have little kids of our own who we want to know how good Snickers bars can be...

God sees the wrapper.

Ripped apart and discarded and will recompense for it all when He comes ‘ah callin....

All you wanted to do were simple things...

Wait for the wind to come teach you how to fly.

As you die.

Don’t be angry with her.

That wasn’t her desire today either.
