You Have 1 Person Searching for You!

You Have 1 Person Searching for You!

A Poem by Kelley Quinn

"I grew up in Nebraska, actually, with two older brothers. they're a riot alright. They taught me how to wrestle and I was hooked from the start. What do you like to do?"
Oh that's nice.
Where are you from? What do you like to do? How many siblings do you have?
Eventually, you tell everyone the same thing-the same details of your life.
You never change, so why not recycle the details too?

"I write."
What does it matter? I write, yes, but I also dream.
I want.
I live.
I. I. I.
you. you. you.

Tell me something. Anything: new.
Describe your favorite tree, how you would cook the perfect cake, the way someone describes a story that brings you to tears.
I want you to learn something about yourself by learning something about me.
"My brother writes. He's pretty good. Maybe you two could help each other out. Ha."
I give a light smile.
Nothing will ever change.
"Yes, that would be nice. But tell me your life. Tell me your wants and your hurts. Tell me your regrets, but tell me your achievements too. Whisper in my ear everything you're keeping in and then scream it for everyone to hear. How are you going to change the world? Tell me, tell me, tell me."

You read my mind, seriously! One of the reasons I like to read the poems and stories of my peers (or see their drawing, watch them play sports, anything the really love doing) is that I feel I get to know them better that way then going down the usual line of conversation. It gets really dull telling the same stories over and over again and hearing the same information from others is fine I guess, except that it doesn't really MEAN anything.

Just to shake people up I like to describe myself with the word "purple" as an ice breaker. It helps shift the conversation into a new perspective.

My favorite tree weeps by rivers, streams, and lakes. It's branches stretch high and then shoot downward like falling stars turned to vines. I love to hid up in those sheltering branches or lay below them and just stare up at their white bark. My favorite tree is a willow.

I will change the world with my writing. I want to be the kind of writer who moves people deep down, in a way that makes them question their presumptions and try on a new perspective, a way that helps them see the world and themselves anew. I am a student of life who hopes to be a teacher or guide for others when they also seek to learn the simple truths this world has offered me on my quest. I also want to empower those people with the greatest truth of all: being yourself, trusting and believing in yourself, and loving yourself truly is the best foundation you can give yourself.

Hey there, good to see you back. Well...I'm certain this must have been inspired by that silly commercial, "Only six friends...looking for me." I hate it, just in case you're wondering, the commercial, not your writing. You bring up an interesting question. So, why do we keep dribbling out the same old stuff? I have no answer to that, but I do have a favorite tree. I called it the jungle tree. It would take too long to describe it here. I don't know how to make the perfect cake...a real disaster waiting to happen. I haven't the talent to tell a story to bring tears to your eyes, unless you want to hear something so rediculously humorous it makes you cry with laughter. I'm not really that talented either. I've learned about myself that learning never ends, and sometimes what you've learned you have to relearn all over again. How am I going to change the world...by simply being me.
