A Muddy Dilemma

A Muddy Dilemma

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

A boy in rubber boots
sinking quick
into the mire of an April mud
hole, mother’s warning
to steer clear
from temptation
                           falling
                                      on his deaf ear …

Watching him calculate
his options, I
return to a similar dilemma, fifty
some years before. When

he notices me,
the grin is all I need
to remember: once a boy …

what’s a boot to a foot if
it’s still out
growing its yard?

Leather and feet are born to part ways. Boys know this instinctively,

Wonderful! Never resist looking back on 'what if I do, what if I don 't! Great finish too - am smiling into the night.
