Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes

A Poem by Ken e Bujold
"

sorry, if you thought cartoons. I prefer my philosophers of sterner materials

"

Dial up your doubt and begin to question

The dark side of divine determination,

See how long it takes to calculate

Which side of the gates you’ve been assigned

To wait the second distribution

Of celestial benefits. If

Your pockets are smaller than sacks or

Your tummy tucks inside your pants

Too bad -- you’re not one of the eligible

Beneficiaries. Carry on as you were.

Heaven was never in the cards.

The contract between He and They

Was inked to insure a mutual exclusion

Of the unwashed, overworked beasts

Essential to operating a plantation.

This is as good as it gets. A few scored

Years sandwiched around a dirt shank until

You’re knackered off to Perdition’s pasture.

Great little piece. And I say that as a Bill Watterson fan. Nicely done!

Kind of funny and kind of sad. I've always thought of life as a classroom and everything material as a representation of more substantial and Divine truths. Some study and learn their lessons. Others try to "coast" through the grades without learning anything. The final exam is coming though. It comes for each of us in time.

Knackered off to Perdition’s pasture is such great use of language, a genuine Irish homage.
