To an old friend

A poem about a friend I am no longer friends with. It is kind of a niche experience but it's my first poem

You said it was a dare 

I understand why you did it,

You never back down. 

My question is 

Why did you stay?

I don't think it was about the dare anymore

What made you stay? 

You said that they said I was weird, 

But you were too, I knew you well enough to know that 

You were LOUD 

Intelligent 

Unique 

But I think I was too.

Is that why it worked?

Were we just similar enough for it to work? 

I often wonder who I would be if I didn't know you

Would I have more confidence? 

Less?

Would I have been drawn to the same people I am now?

Would I have even changed? 

I know I’ve changed from the time I knew you

And you have too

Would you still like the me I am now? 

Did you matter to me? I can answer yes to that 

Did I matter to you? I don't know

At first it sounded like the cause of clashing was being too much alike. And as the reader reads on it also appears like there wasn't enough occasion for both friends to be different. What shone most was the fact that both decided to stay, even if now they no longer are. Whether too much alike or not enough as opposites to attract, there was something going there. Perhaps the future shall reveal something awesome in spite of how things are at the moment. Thanks for sharing.

Really, it's not bad for a first effort. It's full of raw feeling, one of those events of the past that are so hard to let go of. The feeling is that the speaker wonders if there is any chance of rekindling the relationship. Well, stranger things have happened.
