Choices

This is a poem inspired by choices.. in particular to do with my own choices that I have to make.

Choices

 

Choices are difficult to make,

Each path has its highs and lows.

What you choose is always a mistake

Which frankly, I think blows.

 

Imagine it this way, you love two songs.

One is normal, the other, forbidden fruit.

You can only pick one that will last lifelong,

Your liking to the other must remain mute.

 

To be put another way, there are two roads,

one provides something new to see.

The other, deceit will soon corrode,

yet both provide security.

 

Choices are difficult to make,

each path has its ups and downs.

I really don't want to mistake,

a path of smiles for frowns.

This was written on 26th July 2013 when I was supposed to be sleeping. It is a reflection on my thoughts at the time for I seem to be at crossroads. Feel free to let me know what you think.

precisely right. I was, on writing this poem, 17. I was facing a lot of choices and coming to terms with many things about my own life. I write for the moment and in that moment I was still looking for myself and trying to figure life out.

I like the polarization of this poem. The different paths oppose eachother but fit together seamlessly just like a polyrhythm. Deep thoughts about life. There is a quiet wisdom here.

Thankyou! I'm glad that you enjoyed the piece. I remember.when I wrote this it was during a time where I was trying to decide on my future and what I should do in regards to following what I want and what.was perhaps more practical. It was a time of unknowns and it kept me up at night because I didn't know how to process everything so I sat and I wrote this.
