Conveyor Belt

Conveyor Belt

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward
"

choking

"

We’re born

and then what?

thrown into a pit of

goblins

forced to battle our way

through the cesspit of life

with our bare hands

while others have knifes

cheaters

morphed into rats

no wonder my father became a drunk

I used to smoke y’know

cigarette after cigarette

lay on the backdoor

            step

dreaming up stories of the     stars

sippin tea with Monet.

I see snakes in their spines

I see love

only for selfish reason

I see ignorance.

tired

tired

the sort of tired that sleep won’t fix.

there’s no souls here.

Don’t ask me why I write

I don’t ask why you breathe

or

why you sleep at night.

go ahead,

you can’t kill me with words, honey

I breathe them

and if you cut me

I will certainly bleed them.

I love this. It is so true... life has no reader's manual. No one really knows what they should do here on earth? So we follow our nature...human nature is evil. I love the sharp and harshness op the poem - no sugar coating it.
Can't wait to read some more of your work!

Amazing that you've brought my attention back to this poem. I haven't read it in a while. Thank you .. read more

Don’t ask me why I write
I don’t ask why you breathe

These two lines are amazing! it really speaks to writing as something necessary, a release, a form of expression, catharsis, and life itself. Absolutely Beautiful!

Awesome job here. I love this. 'sippin tea with Monet' & 'Don’t ask me why I write
I don’t ask why you breathe ' - fabulous lines. Such honest, raw, powerful feelings here. A true writer & poet.

This comment means everything and I can't thank you enough for reading.
I like it. How you see others and what is around you. How yes we as writers do bleed words, that writing is like breath and release for what we feel.

This piece acts as a form of release, as well as a lighthouse or beacons for others. Perhaps few, but the "I" in this piece is sincerely not alone. Like-minded others do exist. Beautiful work.

I'm glad, JBoone. Thanks for stopping by. Appreciated.
Words are the life force to so many sensitive souls...striking piece of writing...on the one hand you have the skill of a Poet at heart who sees all in everything and can write their heart out and on the other hand, there is a thread of despair at life...apt title for such a piece and whereas words may not help us survive the rat race they can go a long way to exorcising demons that cling on along the way, blessings :)
