hmm .... quick hitting, sharp & biting. leaves its mark upon the reader. sometimes there is not a lot need be said. unfortunate and poignant.

I think you force the reader to ask the question....what happened in those backstreets? What were those bad memories?

In doing so, we look for something we can relate to or remember about our own experiences or news we might have heard. I guess? :)
