Mother Nature

Mother Nature

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

do not mistake my laughter for agreement

I am not on your side

the toxicity on your lips does not

impress me

I’d try and chisel away at your stone wall of ignorance

if only I had the energy

you see,

me and these women I call sisters

we are routed to the ground like trees

we are the leaves beneath your feet

we are your mother

we are your grandmother

and no matter how many times

you stick an axe in us

we will just keep growing

we will just keep living.
