Where Did We Go

Where Did We Go

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

is this what sex has come to

we don’t touch anymore

instead we send each other

virtual

staged

carefully

crafted

pictures

of our naked bodies

we meet through a screen

we don’t see facial expressions

we see grammar mistakes

that bright light will murder our ability to connect

with the living

and the breathing.

The internet has brought with it so many advantages but also disadvantages. You speak of two people who have become disconnected and rewired through online communications. That in itself creates distance which if not corrected can become a different way of being in touch with each other, and that's not good.

The invisibility of that space when there's no warmth of skin, eye contact or intimacy is what will lead to silence on the other end, possibly for good.
