Quetzal (Golden Bars)

Quetzal (Golden Bars)

A Poem by Jack Romero
"

Written 11 years ago.

"
a stranger in a strange land
pushing determined through the underbrush
spied a miracle bird, almost holy in its resplendence.
broken-hearted by its beauty,
he brought one home in a golden cage,
to be pampered as royalty ought, spared the vicissitudes of the wild.

the next morning, the bird was found
dead of a broken heart.

the funeral was lavish.
