A Loyal Enemy

A Loyal Enemy

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I am waiting. I'm hiding behind

the moon's back.

I am waiting for you to return

with your prayers to the stolen life.

Don't caress my sweet dreams

so intensely, don't lose your head

for memories that don't belong

to anyone.

Let your kiss steal hope

from my gullible lips,

let your caress be a charming pain,

a remnant of an excessive past.

Don't lose your head

for words that no one deserves.

No one is worthy of your memory,

your dual history

that you could give to your faithful enemy.

Let the white bird of your heart

stop being afraid of the sky.

Please let the breath of silence

fill my tired delusion.

I know you will come back

with the love you have attached

to your heart.
