Espresso Junction

Espresso Junction

A Poem by Kris Merrells

More angst-y teenagers should drink straight espresso

It would make them feel better, I think

But only in that way where they could think,

“This espresso… it is so bitter.

Perhaps espresso knows something I do not.

It must, for espresso has existed long before I have

And still, it is bitter.

This must be life.”

And then, in that teenaged angst kind of way

They’ll feel better.

Because they’re right

They knew it along

Their bitter smiles

Will slowly creep up

One side of their mouths

And they'll think

“This is good espresso.”

It has been nearly three years since I have abandoned the status quo in search of a life that meant something. I always try to imagine what I would think of my life, if I were 100 years old, looking .. more..
