Cardiac Decay

A Poem by Kristan A. Mohammed
"

Ever felt like you wanted sorrow?

"

Curse your breath upon me oh sorrow,

Stitch your pain into my skin.

Put holes into my hopes for tomorrow,

Countdown with me as the end begins.

My heart is but a mirror,

Reflecting the image of love you show.

But I cannot return these feelings,

I’m incapable of doing so.

‘Cause love’s hollow reflection,

Is just an apparition.

Cutting a line of symmetry,

To separate love and hate.

Love is the last thing on my mind.

Nothing to trade for a better fate.

No treasure left to find.

Should I embrace this sweet madness?

Or cut it from my chest?

Should I rip it out of me?

Or keep this cavity in my body?

Author's Note

The rhyming scheme is mixed up because of the inner confusion.
I felt like I needed sorrow and anguish so I that I could feel inspired to write. I've been having a really hard time lately. Hence my poem Writer's Block.

I love this poem. You can almost feel the sadness and confusion in the piece. I can't say I've ever asked for/needed sorrow or anguish. I'm usually too deep into all the events to ever wish for it because I either feel it or just don't want it. But, if that's part of your process for writing, go you! I love your works, my friend. :)

Thanks a million. For your thoughts.
I found myself really feeling this poem. Especially the first and last verses I felt I could relate to.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot.
We can all relate to writer's block! Especially me lately. So much anguish and even bitterness does come through here. Well done and expertly worded.
