MISREPRESENTED

I did not wear white

The village is dusty in harmattan

They said if you don’t wear white

You are jealous

I did not come tonight

I saved myself the pain of an early bird

She told the others

She dey in lover in der

I did not say much

I knew they wouldn’t listen anyway

He shouted angrily on their behalf

Speak you insolent little girl

What are we?

We say gold, you say yellow

We say emerald, they say green

We say gray, they say ash

Our words are ours

If you would hear us speak

If only you would hear us speak
