My Protector

My Protector

A Poem by Lacey

She was beautiful you know.

She was strong and free spirited.

She had a fire burning in her soul that was intoxicating and amazing

All at the same time.

Her smile could light up the entire room.

Her laugh could warm the coldest heart.

She was a Mother

A Wife

A nurturer

A healer

And a protector.

You never saw her worth.

Not even for a second.

You tried to tie down her free spirit with chains of steel.

Brake her confidence with words like knifes.

Snuff out the fire burning in her soul by trying to drown her with demands.

You took her smile and replaced it with a frown.

You took her laugh and replaced it with tears.

Even after all that she still remained

The best mother

The best wife she could be

A nurturer for our soul

A healer of our broken hearts

And a protector from you.

All the times you tried to tear me down

Saying that I was “just like my mother”

Never worked.

If I become half the women my mother is

I would be proud.

Because she is truly amazing.

Something you could never see.

.....holy kwap! How is no one reading your work!? It's awesome! I felt the power emanating from this, and it really tugged at my heart and shook it. WOW! Just one spelling mistake you should know: "women" towards the end ("if I become half the women my mother is") should be "woman" (singular, "women" is plural). Well done overall! Much enjoyed!
