Bulldog

Bulldog

A Poem by Lacuna Badtz
"

For My Grandpa

"
An empty beach fears no tidal waves.

You would watch the ocean

pull back it's pride

then grace your feet with sun kissed love.

"Wade in me" it would plead.

you would never deny a friend.

Hard to the core,

you are so tough,

but that smile makes your bulldog

a puppy again.

Tongue hanging out of your mouth.

On all four limbs, you crawl,

sniffing around for something new,

but always there when I call.

A lap to always rest upon.

A laugh when I least expect it.

No one can ever beat your swagger.

No one can outlast you in a race of love.

I cling to you like Velcro.

I keep myself far out of reach.

I can't stand to see your face

drowning in sorrow.

I can't watch your moments

pass us all by.

The opening and the last line really are spectacular . Honestly I want a little More in between though. The images are err ally well done but I can't quite put it all together.

a touching piece, full of great imagery, the last stanza certainly leaves the reader thinking, good work.

Sentimental pieces...as I quote and read on WC...
all fall to the inner feelings of the person involved...
and here shows thru with your grandpa...
a reflective resonates in the lines...
your last stanza seals the ending...

Very nice poem, i liked how descriptive it is, it easily paints a picture for the reader. Keep up the good work!

Very lovely! It's very reminiscent and tells a lot about the relationship possible between a human and a dog. A large amount of people think wrongly about bull-dogs, and so this topic is greatly relevant. The way this poem speaks to its reader is engaging and enjoyable.
Keep writing, friend!

"but that smile makes your bulldog
a puppy again."

I love that line! You should make a song out of this, wouldn't seem out of place in the '40s...it's got an old-time feel about it. Thanks for sharing! :)
