I remember so well…
almost as if it were yesterday...
laying out in the backyard
of my parents white clapboard house
where we lived on Main Street

Stretched out on the soft, cool green grass
feeling the warm,golden afternoon sun
shining down on my child’s face
just hoping it would paint light, brown freckles
on my tiny, little girls upturned nose

Oh, I could lie there for hours and hours
gazing up at those soft, cotton candy clouds
trying to decide which one looked like
a soft, fluffy, white kitten, an elephant
or perhaps a fairy princess
riding off on a white thundering pony
into “Nowhere Land”...
the land of angels and magic

Fairies with long, golden tressees
bewitching elves and fairy tales
of the Sandman who carried me away
into enchanted, magical dreams of wonder

So many happy memories I had
of luxuriously basking
in that

warm golden, afternoon sun
in a safe carefree innocent childhood state of grace
gazing dreamily at those fluffy clouds
shaping pictures in my child’s mind
of all things lovely...
on a floating piece of water in the sky
          My soft, pink and white...
                 cotton candy clouds

I think you've managed to transport yourself successfully for this piece Anne. It doesn't come across as an adult writing about a childhood, it is more like a child writing about a childhood.

Filling the dreams of youth with optimism for bright days, inspiring skies, and caring nights. Metaphors fill your poem with charm and bring goodness sharply into focus.

Nice work...!
