Candy, Cards and Callous Words

Candy, Cards and Callous Words

A Poem by anne p. murray- LadeeAnne
"

The harsh, sad reality of domestic abuse is a negative thing to read or hear. But their voices need to be heard, even in it's ugly reality. People need help and places to go when safety is imminent!

he loves her?

of this, he is sure

even though his pulse registers minus

leaving hers in states of cardiac arrest

while he blasts his verbal arrows

like cold, hard hail,

pelting her brain, peppering her skin

he carelessly violates the

 “do not trespass” sign

posted in Capital Letters on her heart!

then….

after the blood has dried

and the bruises turn a sickening shade of yellow

she get cards and candy

after his stone cold, callous words

No......

 cards and candy cannot heal

    his cruel, cantankerous, callous words

or mend her heart and wounded spirit.

Author's Note

anne p. murray- LadeeAnne
I used to work in a Domestic Abuse Crisis center for abused women and children.
I worked with so many women and saw so many sad, heart wrenching cases, of them and their children. The raw reality of it all was immense and overpowering, with the need to help, as I too had once walked that road.

This is an eye-opener for everyone, including those that think they already know all about it. Straight to the point, no fancy frills, just good honest writing.

I said many years ago ... that if I came across this type of thing I would intervene without a thought for the consequences to me. I heard from those that have more experience of it that it would be the original victim that would pay the price. One such person was my sister. I sent a letter that was to be left laying around for her then boyfriend to 'find'. I made it clear that if I made the effort to travel a couple of hundred miles I would be making a serious point ...

Fortunately for all concerned, he moved on a while later.
Nicely done once again Anne.

Why do some think that a kind gesture can make up for hurtful words... I have seen this many times unfortunately... those who abuse are cowards praying on the weak. This poem sure is not sugar coated and that is what I like best.
