In The Ashes

In The Ashes

A Poem by Goyo Armstrong
"

About a friend. A love lost, and a time long ago.

"

IN THE ASHES

Should there be an ember in your gaze

Where once there burned a furnace

I shall not try to rekindle the blaze

But rather gather my bags in earnest

Retreat for a haven far or near

Where the salve of solitude awaits

To propitiate the pyres of the years

That flared back when we were mates.

When the embers have settled to ash

And whatever ardor between us cooled

I’ll meet you somewhere so we can rehash

Whatever flame we had that Fate fooled

Us to believe we could find among the cinders

The thing extinguished that lingers and lingers.

A poignant write. What once was is no more and even if a spark still exists, it is only in memory. Not trying to rekindle what once was is the way to go. Time changes everything and often we wear rose colored glasses when we look back through the tunnel of time. Well written. Lydi**
