Daughter Song

Daughter Song

A Poem by Bree Williams

I feel insane,
and carved of rock, beaten by pacific winds,
and constructed of steel beams by men with short lives,
and fragile, and feral,
all teeth
all screams
girl and woman and ghost and bone
I feel insane
and unseen
and undone.

I've been here a long time, and just by reading the tags and then the poem It's clear you've been writing a while. The angst and grief stand out in this, giving it a personality we can see with each line.

This is excellent writing. Welcome to the site.

This is a short work, but it throws a lot of images at you. I especially liked those in line 3. The overall sense I get of it is that this is a life of contradictions, carved of rock and constructed of steel, yet also fragile and feral, both teeth and screams. Both confidence and and uncertainty appear in these lines. The last three, however, are unified in their somberness. They almost sound like a call for help. Whatever the truth, this is a very good poem that says a lot for its length.
