Nothing Dies

Nothing Dies

A Poem by Laura Harrison

At this time of year, nature is dead.

The trees have parted with their leaves

and the flowers no longer bloom;

then along comes spring,

restoring all beauty and life to the world.

Even people who have long since been buried in the ground,

stay alive in their loved ones hearts.

So don’t hide yourself away in your room

and act like you’re dying

because I can still see a lot of life in you.

Yes, you are hurting

and it seems like the end of the world as you know it;

you feel as though the depression is sucking the air out of your lungs.

But I can still see that sparkle in your eyes;

I can still feel your heart pumping when you lay your head on my chest.

So next time you feel as though there is no life left inside of you,

look outside at the withered trees

and the wilting plants

and remind yourself that nothing ever dies.

Not really.

Nicely done, and very potent and precise.

This poem is very, very encouraging, and that element of encouragement is what makes it so special. I love how you have used the example of the life now dead always stays alive in the hearts of the ones who loved them. Also, the way you began the poem is beautiful.

The truth is depicted here, the truth that not many people know. And that truth is that nothing really ever dies. They always leave behind something of them, and that is the beauty of life and death. The living remember the dead, and when they die, they are remembered as well.

You, my friend, are one heck of a poet.

Shelving it. Xx.

This is wonderful, all people struggling with depression should live by these words, nothing ever truly dies; the memory of a loved one lives on, the trees will soon bloom in months to come, and you will be okay someday too.
This is a very powerful piece that sheds hope on a dark subject.
Thank you for sharing this, I think I needed it

I agree with the above lines. I heard my Grandfather today. The elders who taught us well are part of us forever. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
