Thoughts On A Popular Expression

Thoughts On A Popular Expression

A Poem by Laura Harrison

For most things in life

We don’t pay with money

But with pain

And grief

And regret

We pay for the mistakes that we shouldn’t have made

For not saying “I love you” enough times before it was too late

For all the things that we should have just said

While we had them in our head.

But I don’t believe that the best things in life are free

But rather, exchanged

We swap the bad for the good

The sad for the happy

When we meet that special person

Who makes everything in life okay

And yes, the bad may try to creep back in once in a while

But that doesn’t mean we should buy it again.

But I don’t believe that the best things in life are free
But rather, exchanged

Such wisdom in those lines. I do believe the same. Well stated

I liked the described wisdom.
"We swap the good for the bad
The sad for the happy"
the above two were my favorite. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
