When I Look Into Your Eyes

When I Look Into Your Eyes

A Poem by Laura Harrison

My mother once told me

that you can tell what a person is thinking

just by looking in their eyes

and when you caught me

staring at you yesterday

and we locked gazes for a second

it looked like your eyes were saying

“I love you”

but I have always been a hopeless romantic

so my stupid mind probably just imagined it

and ever since I met you

I have been listening to all of the love songs

on my Ipod on repeat

I have watched a Walk To Remember

five times this week

and all I can think about

is what it would be like

to be held by you,

to have my lips crushed by yours.

Well, I got what I wanted last Saturday night

when I laid my feelings for you out on the line

and after we kissed

I wondered what it would be like to be loved by you

that was the moment I looked into your eyes

and you didn’t even have to say those three special words

because I already knew

and if your mother told you the same thing as mine

I’m sure you knew that I loved you too.
